F.A.Q.

A: TRG stands for the Portuguese words terapia de reprocessamento generativo; in English it’s often called “reprocessing.” Originating in Brazil, TRG is a counseling method that identifies and eliminates the root cause of many emotional disfunctions, such as phobias, depression, and anxiety. Once the root causes are gone, the symptoms will also disappear, leaving each patient in a happier, more peaceful state of mind going forward.

A: Traditional therapy typically involves a patient talking to a therapist for nearly the entire session. Though conversing can help, it accesses only the rational mind. TRG digs deeper into the patient’s emotions to expose underlying fears, angers, and other burdens. That’s why I believe in TRG: it solves the problems themselves instead of treating the symptoms.

You’re likely to see results within the first two sessions.

Most people feel like they’ve made a big step up after ten sessions. Though some stay longer and others don’t, we’ll try to focus on extinguishing underlying issues that cause pain. That’s another difference between TRG and traditional therapy: many TRG patients were in traditional therapy for years before they discovered TRG, which has a definite stopping point. TRG wants to improve your day to day life and send you away a more balanced and peaceful person.

Results tend to be the strongest in teenagers and older. TRG does work with younger children, but the structure of the sessions will change to accommodate the attention span and maturity of the patient.

Yes, though the styles are unlikely to overlap at all.

SSRIs and SNRIs are a bit like wearing thick gloves working on a project. You might be protected from harm, but you also cannot feel what you are doing. TRG works better if you are able to feel the emotions that those medicines often suppress. Though I will not turn away a patient who is on an SSRI or SNRI, it is not the best way to experience TRG. Other classes of antidepressant are less likely to interfere with TRG sessions. Talk to your doctor or mental health professional before making any changes to your medications.

Why wouldn’t anyone want to drop the heavy weights they carry around with them on a daily basis? If people could somehow glimpse how helpful this method is before they tried it, they would walk into their first session enthusiastically.

Not in the slightest. Remember that TRG is designed to destroy the root cause of emotional disfunction, and since everyone has different problems, how can you expect the content of each session to be the same?

TRG is relatively new. I would not be surprised to see it revolutionize the mental health industry in the coming years.
However, I suspect another reason that it is not mainstream is because there’s no way to profit from it in perpetuity. The conflict of interest in many worldwide businesses is that if they do their job, they lose your business. If you walk away from TRG feeling better, I am happy about it even if I don’t see you again.

No. TRG is designed to put each patient in a frame of mind where they are better able to make choices themselves without being influenced by the pain, emotional static, and impulsiveness that often contributes to bad choices. Though TRG does not offer advice, it lifts patients to a place where they may not need it.

No. No part of the TRG protocol violates religious beliefs or practices. Its purpose is to release you from emotional pain. You can proceed with TRG without fear of violating your religious practices.
